Fall Out of Love

Believing that you won’t abandon me, I built trust with my shaky hand.

Preparing myself is the hardest step I had ever accomplished so far. You know I always withdraw without even trying, and beyond proud for stepping forward. It took me at least a year planning not to sound doubtful, and another year to gather courage. Even this wall of bricks thought I couldn’t make it. They become rigid whenever I hear you say, “I love you”, as if creating walls to protect myself from getting hurt.

Reminiscing is a satisfying feeling. We made it. We’d surpassed the rainy three years, my love. Three years of not wanting the rain, but celebrating it when it pours. Repeatedly plastering the holes on the roof that sheltered us.

If only I had seen the storm coming, we might have still call ourselves “home”.

Darling, I didn’t expect that we had fallen out of love. I never thought I would be the reason for the tears running down on your face like razor blades. We never foresee that the time where we’ll say the words, “goodbye” to each other will come. We are not even prepared to face this kind of feeling. We won’t be watching how the sun sets – together.

I thought we’ll make it until the next sunrise comes.

Our heart was filled with despair, and darkened by false hope. You and I are prisoners and victims of this war. And now that the fight is over, both of us are left shattered. The emptiness and storm are gone, and even the rain had passed. It was hard. It was really hard.

It took every piece of our hearts. And we’re finally coming home at last, but no longer under the same roof.
